The Difference Between “Gold Plated” and “Gilding”
To gild, a gold or silver leaf is applied over an accessory, and, with strong compression, this thin layer will adhere to the piece. Gilding, however, is a very laborious and restricted process, and can only be done on flat objects. Therefore, in recent years this process has given way to plating, as the latter is more practical, easier, and more efficient.
The process of plating a piece of jewellery gets its name because it is literally immersed in a plating solution, be it gold, silver, chrome, or copper. Through this process, the piece is immersed in a solution (gold, silver, or any other finish) connected to an electrical current, this is called “electroplating”. The immersion time is what will define whether this layer will be thick and is what will guarantee a good bonding
It is worth noting that we only work with plated jewellery, which is more durable and has a superior quality than gilded jewellery, such as our wonderful Collection Life (by clicking on the image above you will be directed to this beautiful jewelry).
What is 18k Gold Plated?
Every piece plated with 18k gold means that in its final composition there is 75% pure gold. The other 25% of the jewellery corresponds to the metal or metals that will be part of the bind. Also known as 750 gold, it is one of the most recommended by specialists due to its composition: the metals that make up the 25% are responsible for ensuring greater resistance to jewellery.

What is the 24k Gold Plated?
As seen before, the 18k gold plating means there is 75% gold and 25% other metals in the composition. In the case of 24k gold plated, 100% of its composition is pure gold, also known as “thousand gold” and “fine gold”.
Pure gold, despite being a rare, noble metal and immune to corrosion and oxidation, is extremely soft and flexible. As is the case with our Movement Collection, which attracts attention wherever it goes! click on the image above and see all the pieces in this collection.
