Did you know that Unique was created with the mission of spreading all the beauty, delicacy and preciousness that is the handiwork of Brazilian artisans around the world? With this purpose in mind, even before the brand was born, we were incessantly looking for suppliers who would deliver us Brazilian handpieces, which we would be very proud to show the world.
And that’s how we managed to build suppliers’ chain that have everything to do with our purpose and that found in handwork a way to survive and support their family in a dignified and honorable way.
Two of our main lines – and which are very successful here – are the pieces in Crochet and Filet Lace. Today we are going to tell you a little about the history of each one of them and, of course, present our beautiful collection.
Crochet
A cool curiosity is that “crochet” derives from the French word “croc”, which means “hook”. Crochet is a handcrafted technique that aims to produce objects for decoration, pieces that are used in everyday life such as bath towels, tablecloths, face towels, rugs and even clothes.
As our focus is to serve the modern and cosmopolitan woman with excellence, we are always looking for sets, dresses, skirts and much more, all crafted in wonderful, colourful, and cheerful crochets!
Northeastern Brazilian crocheters are the artisans responsible for inventing and making each of our pieces with their own hands. All of them are made with a lot of love, care and responsibility and the detail of this work can be seen in every detail of the crochet and that’s why we are so passionate about this manual work.

Filet Lace
Coincidence or not, “Filet Lace” is also a word of French origin, as we have seen above about “crochet” and means “net”. A very nice curiosity is that Filet Lace is now considered an Intangible Heritage of Alagoas. The technique was brought by the French at the time of Colonial Brazil and today it is the main means of livelihood for many northeastern families. Those who produce this manual work are the wives of fishermen from riverside communities in Alagoas who, as they wait for their husbands to return from fishing many times for months, had to look for another way to support their family.
Another interesting fact is that Filet Lace is also known as Embroidery Filet, as “embroidery” is understood to be any work performed with a needle on top of a support. And Filet Lace is nothing more than threads braided by a needle over a net. And that’s how this wonderful handiwork comes to life with so many colours and diverse designs.
We are sure you will fall in love after checking out all our pieces in Filet Lace. Just take a look:
Now that you know a little about the history and origin of Crochet and Filet Lace, it is even easier to be enchanted by the handcrafted beauty that Brazil produces, isn’t it?
